Friday Friyay: 'Goddesses Inc.' by Autumn Bardot
The goddess life is fabulous…until you’re fired!
A laugh out loud read about friendship, love, hot guys, and what matters most.
Four ex-goddesses struggle to find friendship, love, and purpose. Except mortals get in the way. Sexy mortals. Obnoxious mortals. And dangerous ones.
Mnem has everything. A glamorous lifestyle, beauty, family, and immortality. But she doesn’t have a platform. Or followers. Or relevance. Which is why Mnemosyne, goddess of remembrance and mother of the nine muses, is fired. She isn’t the only goddess.
Three other goddesses from different cultures are also up a mortal creek without a divine paddle. Now they must build a life—a real one.
Although their divinity is gone, their soul and courage remain. But mortal life is so frustrating! Before they have a chance to get a handle on the whole mortality thing, their lives take an unexpected turn with an epic decision. One with deadly consequences.
Meet the Goddesses
Mnemosyne ~ Greek goddess
Inna ~ Nigerian goddess
Axtis ~ Persian goddess
Phra Naret ~ Thai goddess
Book Beginnings is at home on Rose City Reader, hosted by Gilion Dumas, and Friday 56 at Freda's Voice, hosted by Freda. I'll also be joining the Book Blog Hop, hosted by Billy over at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. These quotes are from an ARC and may differ in the published book.
BB:
'"Welcome to FEM, the originator of divine, semi-divine, and quasi-divine female empowerment and resources. The records department is located on the second floor. The legal department, the third. Find justice on the fifth floor. War is on the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth."' p.1
Love that we get dropped straight into something odd with the first line. I love the divisions of "realms" or "powers" across different floors and did have a sad cackle at the fact that war gets four floors to itself and justice only one. This opening definitely sucks me right in!
F56:
'Mnem returned to her list. It was too short. A tarantula's knee short. This list was supposed to help spin a resume. Instead it was a venomous reminder of her failings.' p.56
Writing resumes is honestly so hard which is why I always advise you do it with a friend. A friend is much more likely to remember all the good and interesting things you've done, whereas you might forget things or consider them not important enough. The fact that Mnemosyne has a short list is honestly surprising to me!
BBH:
This week's question was suggested by Elizabeth from Silver's Reviews and it's a great one:
Where do you post your reviews?
All of my reviews are posted here on this blog primarily and then, depending on where I got the book from, it differs. Books I got through NetGalley are of course also posted there, usually at the same time as on my blog. (Question: should I post my reviews on NetGallet sooner? I always feel like I should send them there as soon as I finish reading...) And then from there the reviews usually also go onto Goodreads. I don't post my reviews to Amazon frequently, but I always do when asked.
What are you reading at the moment? And where do you share your reviews to?
sd
I always leave snippets of my reviews on Goodreads. When I get galleys from NetGalley, I do publish my full reviews on there.
ReplyDeleteFYI: I'm the weekly host of the Book Blogger Hop. My name is Billy, not Charlie. LOL!
:O I've just updated it, my apologies! Maybe I should switch to Goodreads snippets rather than full reviews as well! Thanks for dropping by :)
DeleteAmazon can be a difficult place to post to. They get kind of persnickety at times. I post to NetGalley, Goodreads, my blog, and Instagram plus a number of retailers.
ReplyDeleteGreat excerpts, and I love the cover, too. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteSounds so very different!! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love the snippets you posted. It sounds like a good read.
ReplyDeleteI read a lot of indie published books, so to support the author I usually review on Amazon. I always write it on Goodreads first and then copy it from there to my blog, Bookbub, Amazon. I do all these and anywhere else requested if it's an arc.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a fun read! I usually post my ARC reviews on Goodreads, BookBub, and NetGalley right after I finish it, and then schedule it on my blog for around the release day. I'm always afraid I'll forget to post it if I don't get it up right away, lol. Hope you have a great weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, yes it has been a week. I am so glad it's nearly over. I am sorry about your cupboard! I hope you get it fixed without any trouble. Goddesses, Inc. sounds so fun! I love the excerpts.
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering if I should do that too--share my reviews on NetGalley right away. Instead, I tend to post their after I post on my blog and Goodreads so I can include the link to my blog post and Goodreads.
I hope you have a great weekend, Juli!
Goddess Inc looks interesting. I like the quotes, and the book cover is really cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great choice! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on earning your MA. Sorry about the shelving falling down. I assume there is someone on the Internet that put up a video how to repair that type of damage. Sigh. Have a good week. My Friday Quotes are here
ReplyDeleteThis sounds pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats! :)
I love that it has humor! I think that is something we all need. I typically post to Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes and Noble (since Net Galley wants us to), my blog, and anywhere else I have been asked.
