Friday Friyay: 'Passenger' by Alexandra Bracken
Fans of Outlander and Red Queen will be swept away by this epic New York Times bestselling story of love, adventure and deceit.
In one devastating night, Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has travelled not just miles but years from home.
Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods - a powerful family in the Colonies - and the servitude he's known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past he can't escape and the family that won't let him go. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, his passenger, can find.
Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveller who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods' grasp. But as they get closer to their target, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home forever.

'Prologue
As they ascended, retreating farther from the winding trails that marked the way to nearby villages, the world opened to him in its purest form: silent, ancient, mysterious.' 1%
I love this opening! I have it especially when I climb mountains because there is something so ancient and majestic about mountains. They don't care about you at all and yet they can teach you the best lessons about perseverance and endurance and beauty. I wonder if the Prologue takes place on a mountain or if I'm just riffing here...

'"Whoever controls the astrolabe could potentially control the whole of time."' 56%
Oh, ok, this is gonna get serious! I'm assuming the astrolabe is the stolen object from the blurb, so maybe this is a spoiler, but then the book came out in 2016 so I don't know if I have to be hesitant about this. I'm very excited to get in to this book now!
BBH:
This week's question was suggested by Billy himself:
Do you suggest new authors to your readers?
I think in a way that is what most book blogs do! Even if a blog is very genre-specific, it will nonetheless have authors featured that are new to genre readers, since everyone will pick up something slightly different.
For me, my blog is very much feared towards opening my horizons and introducing me to new authors. (How selfish, I know...) I think by doing that, I probably also introduce new authors to the readers. There is a good mix, I think, on my blog between well-known, highly publicized books and authors, and perhaps more niche, or new authors. But then some of them are also quite "old" authors, in the sense that they're from previous centuries! If I'm wrong on that please tell me xD
So that's it for me this week! Have you already read Passenger? And do you feature new authors?
I definitely suggest new authors to readers. And like you said, every author is new to someone. My BBH: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2022/10/14/bookbloggerhop-introducing-new-authors/
ReplyDeleteI suggest things on Facebook Groups, mainly books though rather than a specific author.
ReplyDeleteI set myself genre goals to try and broaden my reading and go on lots of Blog Tours which hopefully my readers enjoy. I also like to visit the library and promote books from there to prove that no matter what your budget you can still enjoy reading!
Have a great weekend!
