Friday Friyay: 'I Know You' by Claire McGowan
In this tense thriller from the bestselling author of What You Did and The Other Wife, a woman finds a dead body. Will she make the same mistake as last time?
When Rachel stumbles upon a body in the woods, she knows what she has to do: run. Get away. Do not be found at the scene. Last time, she didn’t know, and she ended up accused of murder. But when this victim is identified as her boyfriend’s estranged wife, Rachel realises she’s already the prime suspect.
With mounting evidence against her, Rachel’s only hope is to keep the truth about herself well hidden. Because twenty years ago she was someone else—Casey, a young nanny trying to make it as an actress in Los Angeles. When the family she worked for were brutally murdered, all the evidence pointed to her and she went to prison. Back then, she narrowly escaped the death penalty and managed to free herself on appeal. Now she’s fighting to save the life she’s spent years piecing back together.
But with her behaviour raising suspicion and the police closing in, Rachel can’t help wondering: Was her discovery in the woods really just an awful coincidence, or is someone framing her for murder? Someone who knows who she is, and wants revenge…

BB:
'Rachel
What would you do if you found a dead body? Call the police? Check for a pulse? Flag down a passer-by for help, tearful but responsible, gulping in air?' p.1
Based on the blurb I think I can make a good guess that Rachel will not be doing any of the above. But I did wonder, while reading this, what I would do. I'd imagine I would call the police... but then what if I'm somewhere without cellphone reception? What if it's somewhere I don't want to stay and wait? What if it's dark? So yes, good questions right off the bat!
F56:'I had been screamed at before, of course, many times, both by strangers and people who knew me. But that was long ago. You get used to it, not being hated.' p.56
This made me feel genuinely bad for Rachel, even though I don't really know her yet. I'm curious to see where McGowan will take this book, whether Rachel will be completely redeemed or if there will be something that keeps us being suspicious of her.

This week's question was suggested by Julie over at Stepping Stones Book Reviews:
What is your favourite part about the book blogging community?
Ooh this is a great question Julie! I remember starting out with the blogging 11 years ago and I was so nervous initially because I was worried I'd get shouted down for my opinions. But that never happened! The book blogging community is actually very open and welcoming to all kinds of readers and opinions and ways of expressing yourself. Whichever approach you want to take to book blogging, I feel like you're welcomed by the rest of the community because we do all share a love of books, no matter what the genre! So I really enjoy that, being able to engage with so many different people and see so much passion being shared.
So that's me! Do you like the sound of I Know You? And what do you enjoy about the book blogging community?
I've read The Other Wife and thought it was brilliant! This one sounds just as good!!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend and enjoy your books!
