It's either well written or poorly written. Art is a reflection ignore culture/ society and literature exposes this- the qualm is with the latter not the literature.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11541564981104044519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6022230834119760805.post-61686559570298513182015-06-21T16:07:17.765+01:002015-06-21T16:07:17.765+01:00What really annoyed me as well was that this happe...What really annoyed me as well was that this happened at a college, the place where you go to learn new things and be confronted by things as well. If you're unwilling to engage there, how will you ever in life? I really hope the college didn't end up changing the reading list for her because it would be such a shame since these graphic novels are actually really good! The parents probably played a big part in this. I understand not wanting to read things that make you uncomfortable and going into something that is not what you expect, but I'm sorry, you're in college. You're going to read things that you wouldn't pick up on your own, even things that you don't agree with. If you're taking a literature class, you're going to read a range of literature and have to think about it critically. As an adult, you should be able to deal with this. I haven't read any of these comics myself but I'm familiar with two of them. They are not pornographic and are appropriate for college level students.

I don't think that college's should be tailoring their curriculum based on student's personal preferences. Some people are offended by certain things and, if you go and take off or warn against every book that offends someone, nothing will be left on the list. We should be censoring books in classes (or anywhere) and I think she should suck it up and participate in the discussion. Maybe I'm being harsh, but this annoys me.

And yeah, eradicate isn't a term I'd use in relation to the arts of any sort! Nope!

Cayt @ Vicarious CaytastropheCaythttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08568532592059128143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6022230834119760805.post-84847454027201296092015-06-15T20:58:43.485+01:002015-06-15T20:58:43.485+01:00I can understand her being personally offended by ...I can understand her being personally offended by the course, I supposed, but I will never understand someone who feel they need to stop other strangers from the experience as well. It takes a special kind of upbringing to produce someone like that, I think. Robhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10225859948546847678noreply@blogger.com
